State Animal Welfare Board, Assam

In pursuance of the Hon'ble Supreme Court's order dated 06.08.2008 passed in WP(C) No. 440 of 2000 (Geetha Seshmani Vs. Union of India & Anr) and as per instruction of the Govt. of India in Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying (DAHD) the State of Assam was one of the first states to constitute the State Animal Welfare Board vide Govt. Notification No. VFV 292/96/182 dated 09th March, 2009. The Board was constituted initially with eight members taking the Additional Chief Secretary, P & RD Department as the Chairman of the Board.

The State Animal Welfare Board, Assam is dedicated to ensuring the welfare and protection of animals within the state. It works towards promoting humane treatment, preventing cruelty, and supporting the effective implementation of animal welfare laws.

The Board actively collaborates with government departments, local authorities, and animal welfare organizations to strengthen welfare initiatives and create awareness about responsible animal care.

Wildlife of Assam
